From Philly to Jersey Migas

Woke up in a very cold room. My GOD! I named the house Cold Winter Manor. That would be Tka Pebon Manor in Abenaki. I am gonna use that extra blanket tonight. I needed and had my coffee – thank God for coffee makers with timers. LOVE THAT! When Llama Lady got up – not long after I did. We chatted a little bit. Then she made breakfast. We chatted some more and talked about our plans for the day. We went up stairs and she did her office work and I did some writing and reading. I got ready for our day trip. I’ve never been to Philly. When I was getting dressed, I looked out the window toward the barn and noticed some kid with a wheelbarrow. I figured the farm hand had brought his son with him. When I was coming downstairs she pointed out the obvious, that she is not ready yet. I didn’t really care. That is the best thing about being on a trip, you don’t have to be anywhere at any particular time. You can eat when you want, sleep when you want, or just chill when ever the mood strikes.

While she was getting dressed, I went to the barn to take photos of the animals. The farm hand was here already and doing his chores or his work I guess. He introduced himself. I was a bit taken back. The young kid is the farm hand. He looked about 20 or 21ish and was a complete hottie. Nice arms, great, great, really great smile. Big brown eyes. Long shaggy-ish hair like the kids have today. He was friendly and asked questions about my trip. He also explained a lot of what he was doing and why. He seemed happy to be working and enjoyed the animals. While I was taking photos I snapped a couple of him with the animals too. He was being a hamm! Love that.

Llama Lady came down and we got in her truck and went to Philly. The roads are so scenic here and they wind like something out of a movie. It is so green. Trees and bushes and plants and grass everywhere. I dint know why I am surprised. I am in the country. In a rural community. They don’t even have a Vietnamese restaurant here! And the truth be said, That is why we were going to Philly, so we could have Vietnamese food. Llama Lady LOVES spring rolls. It is about an hour drive. It flew by. We were two chatty schoolgirls. We talked so much we didn’t even notice and all of a sudden we were in Philly. When we got there we went directly to Chinatown. We walked around some store with all kinds of knick-knacks and made some purchases. THEN – off to have lunch.

At the restaurant it took some doing to get the spring rolls. The waiter kept insisting that he would bring everything out and we could wrap them ourselves. NO! That is not the same. We had such a wonderful lunch. And of course more great conversation. Now, off to South St. Apparently that is where people go it would be like Lower Westheimer in Houston. Kinda where the “freaks” hangout. Those shady and sketchy characters. So we shopped in a really neat store. It was sort of a Mexican folk art/boutique/jewelry/Indian (from India) art. I got some nice pieces. Then we went to a really great metaphysical, new age-ish store. So many books on YOGA! I love it. And crystals and rock, and statues, and incense and candles and stuff, really, really cool stuff! My dear friend in San Fran, the Yoga Princess, will be celebrating a Bday in September and I am looking for the perfect gift. I found these great earrings made from an “om” symbol. And I got me some things too. Between me and Llama Lady, it took a while to get checked out. As we were exiting the store I saw the most exquisite yoga posture figurines. In light blue, frosted, clear and black. I yelled. Knocked on the window – there was a lady in there that had helped me earlier and was now getting something for another customer. She waved as said “bye” I yelled back “NO. Can I see that one and that one and that one” She couldn’t really hear me and so that is when we started playing charades. I returned the earrings and bought several of these little statues. I was sooooooo excited. Yoga Princess is gonna love hers! I cant wait to see the look on her face when she opens her present. I am always excited to go to San Fran, but now I am really looking forward to my trip! Love that!

Final part of the day. We drove back to North Jersey. We stopped at a store to get some groceries. He had a list of 4 things. And hour later and a full shopping cart we left the store. I want to mention this. Llama Lady’s husband loves migas, a Mexican dish of fried corn tortillas and eggs. You can add cheese and sour cream if you like, and even chicken. Really very delicious. I make ‘em all the time. She said they did not have corn tortillas ion Stockton. That she asked and looked and was told they just didn’t carry them. She was able to find all manner of flour tortillas – but it is not he same. Well, I overheard a couple speaking Spanish in the produce dept. I walked over and explained that I was visiting from Texas. I asked if they knew where the “tortillas de maiz” were. They smiled and told me. I went over there and sure enough, big stacks of ‘em! So I went and showed Llama Lady and she said! “No way. Where did you find those?” I laughed so much. There we were in the middle of some grocery store getting all happy over some corn tortillas. Lol And being big goofballs about it too. So we decided that is what we were having for dinner. I went looking for some Pace picante sauce. Apparently in Jersey they can only handle mild. A whole shelf of jars of Pace – All mild. Oh well, I took what I could. When we were at the check out, I saw a stock boy and decided I would go over and ask about the Pace. He looked puzzled. Said, that that was all there was and that they had discontinued carrying some brands, He tried to talk me into some other brand but I kindly declined. When I got back to the checkout, this is what Llama Lady says to me, “did you find the town homosexual? You know, we only have one. Is that him?” to which I responded, “I thought I was the town homosexual! And I am only visiting” She said ”well, I know how you can be. You know how ‘ya’ll’ can always find each other” We started laughing again. We can be in appropriate at times. We finally made it home. On the way home, she was telling me about the scandal of two guys that bout a house not too far from hers, we can actually see it from her driveway. And the contractors that did work for her did work for them. She leans in and whispers “they are two gay guys from New York. Do you know them?” to which I answered no. She went on to comment on how she thought “we” all knew “each other” I told her I did not know them yet. But if she really wanted I could call Gay Headquarters and get their name and phone numbers. You know, my gay card is up-to-date. Plus, I am a lifetime member with a Preferred Platinum, Elite Status. They (Headquarters) would more than happy to oblige. Again we started laughing so hard.

I am so glad we are spending time together and being complete goof balls. I made Migas and they were delicious. I love being here.

I lived for 3 years in South Jersey and worked in Philly. Each day I would tell myself, I couldn't believe I lived there. I left in 1997, but look back @ that time as one of the happiest periods of my life....

But enuff about that....lets talk about the farm hand some more please...
